Lía Mattei Vicéns es una artista visual de San Juan, Puerto Rico.

Nací en San Juan y viví los primeros años de mi vida ahí. Me mudé a Estados Unidos de pequeña y ese evento en mi niñez ha influenciado no tan solo mi arte, si no mi ser. Ahora que estoy de vuelta y establecida en Puerto Rico, estoy realizando mi carrera artística aquí.

Yo hago arte no solo porque me complace crear, pero también como compulsión. Yo proceso mi vida y lo que sucede al mi alrededor pintando y creando visualmente. Por lo tanto, muchas de mis obras se tratan de Puerto Rico y las experiencias que he vivido siendo de la diáspora. Trabajo mucho con temas de desplazamiento, la niñez, la familia, y el caribe. Con mis trabajos, quiero lograr representar mi identidad y experiencias, y ademas, expresar los sentimientos compartidos por todxs caribeñxs. Mi arte es una reflexión de mi identidad y realidad vivida. Mi meta es hacer que el arte y la creatividad sean accesibles y alcanzables para todxs.

Lía Mattei Vicéns is a visual artist from San Juan, Puerto Rico.

I was born in San Juan and I lived the first years of my life there. I moved to the United States at a young age and that event in my childhood has greatly influenced not only my art, but my life. Now that I have returned and am established in Puerto Rico, I am pursuing my artistic career here.

I make art not only because it pleases me to create, but also as a compulsion. I process my life and what happens around me by creating visually. Therefore, much of my work is about Puerto Rico and the experiences I’ve lived being from the diaspora. I work with themes of displacement, family, childhood, and the carribbean. With my work, I hope to represent mi identity and experiences, as well as express feelings shared by all carribean people. My art is a reflection of my identity and lived reality. My goal is to make art and creativity accessible, attainable and welcoming for all.
